Community Recovery and Development Project  - Completed May 2008

This three year project provided assistance to a target population of 20,000 people (Kuraburi and surrounding districts, in Phangna and Ranong Provinces) affected by the devastating 2005 Tsunami along the coast of southern Thailand. The project worked to address the physical and mental health issues arising from the tsunami with the provision of recovery grants and support, physical community infrastructure rehabilitation and improvement, the implementation of community revolving funds, vocational training, cooperative support, mobile health and psycho-social units and adventure-based learning activities. This successful project strengthened communities, assisted families in regaining a satisfactory livelihood, and successfully re-establish their independence. The other main aim of this project was to strengthen the resilience of these communities to potential future disasters.
