DISASTER RESPONSE

When a disaster strikes, people lose their homes, their livelihoods, their livestock, and their crops. They have to leave all they have and run for their lives. We cannot give them back everything that was lost but we can be there to aid those who are suffering the most. ADRA needs your help in these times of increasing disaster and trouble before God’s soon coming. Not everyone can be on the ground but we can all help those who need our help just as our savior did.

You can aid the victims through prayer and by making generous donations to ADRA.

August 2019: Tropical Storm Podul Floods Northeast Thailand

Tropical Storm Podul Floods Northeast Thailand

On 29 August, 2019, Tropical Storm Podul crossed into Northeast and Northern Thailand bringing heavy rainfall and high winds causing flash flooding and landslides across 32 provinces.

Due to the torrential rain, waters rose significantly higher above normal levels in Ubon Ratchathani resulting in widespread flooding in 25 districts, 173 sub districts, 1,338 villages, and over 159,692 homes have been affected by the flood. While many people are still living in their flooded homes without electricity and food supplies, many flood victims in ten provinces (Amnat, Charoen, Khon Kaen, Petchaboon, Phitsanulok, Pichit, Roi-Et, Sri Saket, Sukhothai, Ubon Ratchathani, and Yasothorn) were being evacuated to higher grounds.  Flood waters have damaged and washed out approximately 252,860 acres of farm land, 182 roads, 27 bridges, 98 temples, 74 schools and three hospitals in Ubon Ratchathani. The governor of Ubon Ratchathani, Sarut Witroo, stated that as of now the water levels have ceased to rise. However, the flooding conditions are expected to remain in their current situation for no less than three weeks.

ADRA, in collaboration with Thailand Adventist Mission (TAM), Ubon Adventist International Mission School (UAIMS), Ubon Seventh-day Adventist Church and Adventist Frontier Missions (AFM), is responding by providing clean water and food packages to the most affected communities around Ubon Ratchathani.  Further assessments will highlight additional needs which face the ravaged villages.

ADRA is thankful to its donors for the financial contributions provided to alleviate the suffering of these flood victims.
