Education
Education is a powerful catalyst for change, opening doors to opportunity, fostering personal growth, and building resilient communities. For vulnerable populations in Thailand, access to quality education can be particularly transformative, offering a pathway out of poverty, safeguarding against exploitation, and enabling individuals to build brighter futures.
However, significant challenges persist. Many children, especially those from migrant, stateless, or low-income families, face barriers such as language differences, discrimination, financial hardship, and limited access to resources. These obstacles can lead to children being out of school, facing learning loss, or being unable to pursue higher education or vocational training.
ADRA Thailand is committed to addressing these critical needs. Through various initiatives, ensuring that all children and adults have the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. From school supplies to advocating for the rights of stateless children and offering vocational training, we believe that investing in education is investing in a more just, compassionate, and hopeful future for everyone.
Livelihoods
A sustainable livelihood is more than just a job; it’s the ability for individuals and families to secure the resources, skills, and opportunities needed to meet their basic needs, pursue their aspirations, and build a resilient future. In Thailand, while economic development has progressed, many vulnerable communities still face significant challenges in establishing and maintaining stable livelihoods. These challenges can include limited access to education and skills training, lack of capital for small businesses, fluctuating market prices for agricultural goods, climate change impacts, and issues related to legal status and discrimination for migrant and stateless populations.
ADRA Thailand is dedicated to empowering individuals and displaced people to overcome these obstacles. Our livelihoods programs focus on equipping people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to generate sustainable income, enhance food security, and build resilience against economic shocks. Through initiatives such as vocational training, micro-enterprise development, and market access support, we work hand-in-hand with communities to create lasting solutions that foster self-reliance and lead to a life of dignity and opportunity for all.
Vulnerable Communities
Thailand, a vibrant nation known for its hospitality, is also home to diverse communities facing unique and often severe vulnerabilities. Among them are migrant workers who contribute significantly to the economy but often endure precarious living and working conditions. Stateless people, lacking legal identity are denied fundamental rights like education, healthcare, and formal employment, leaving them vulnerable to hardships. Girls at risk of human trafficking are tragically vulnerable, often targeted due to economic hardship, lack of opportunities, and false promises of a better life. Furthermore, displaced persons from Myanmar continue to seek refuge in Thailand, living in temporary shelters with restricted movement and limited avenues for legal work, reliant on humanitarian aid and yearning for stability.
ADRA Thailand recognizes the urgent needs of these marginalized groups. Guided by principles of justice, compassion, and love, we work tirelessly to provide support. Our programs focus on breaking cycles of vulnerability by offering access to education, promoting sustainable livelihoods, advocating for legal rights and protection, and providing safe spaces for those at risk. By partnering with communities and various stakeholders, ADRA Thailand strives to empower individuals, foster resilience, and build a future where every person, regardless of their background or status, can live with dignity and security.
